Police Release Video of Fatal Fountain Valley Shooting After Suspect Stole Officer’s Gun

Recently released body camera footage from the Fountain Valley Police Department captures the intense moments following a suspect's brazen attempt to steal an officer's firearm.
On January 24, police were dispatched to the 17400 block of Los Jardines West after a report of someone trying to break into a woman's car while she was parked outside Kazuo Masuda Middle School. The situation escalated when officers located the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Osean McClintock, near a drive-thru ATM just a block away from the police station.

After a brief interaction, the officer attempted to detain McClintock, who was shirtless at the time. However, he fled the scene, prompting a chase through a nearby parking lot adjacent to the Fountain Valley School District office. The officer eventually decided to halt the pursuit, communicating over the radio, "If he tries to run again, just let him go."
Moments later, the officer heard his partner shouting from a parking lot entrance at the intersection of San Mateo Street and El Corazon Avenue, leading him to rush to her aid.
The female officer's body camera footage reveals McClintock sprinting towards her open driver's side door. Although the video lacks audio, it clearly shows her drawing her handgun just before McClintock manages to wrest it away from her. During the struggle, the officer is thrown to the ground but quickly regains her footing and seeks cover as her partner arrives on the scene.
Upon arrival, the partner commands McClintock to drop the stolen handgun. However, he refuses and instead climbs into the driver's seat of the officer's cruiser. In response, the officer fired two rounds, fatally striking McClintock while he remained inside the vehicle.
