What a Lucky Guy! Man Claims $3.6M Lottery Win, But Girlfriend Took the Cash and Ghosted Him

May 31 2025

Lawrence Campbell, a resident of Winnipeg, believed he had struck gold when he purchased a lottery ticket that turned out to be worth $3.6 million. However, a series of unfortunate events followed, leaving him in a precarious situation.

After realizing his ticket was a winner, Campbell faced a significant hurdle: he had misplaced his wallet and identification, preventing him from claiming the prize himself. In a twist of fate, his longtime girlfriend, Krystal McKay, stepped in to collect the winnings on his behalf.

What should have been a joyous occasion quickly soured. Instead of embarking on a new life filled with luxury together, McKay allegedly ghosted Campbell shortly after cashing the check. Reports indicate that Campbell is now pursuing legal action against her to recover the money.

“He trusted her because they were in a loyal, committed and promising romantic partnership,” stated Campbell’s lawyer in an interview. The couple had been together for a year and a half and shared a home, which made the sudden turn of events even more shocking for Campbell.

Less than two weeks after McKay collected the winnings, she reportedly failed to return to their shared hotel room. Campbell took it upon himself to search for her at various locations she frequented. His investigation led him to discover her in bed with another man.

“She ghosted him, refused to take his calls or answer his messages; she blocked him on her social media accounts and even took out a protection order,” the lawyer added, highlighting the extent of McKay's actions.

In response to these allegations, McKay has denied any wrongdoing and is preparing to contest the claims in court. The unfolding drama raises questions about trust and betrayal in relationships, especially when large sums of money are involved.
