The Meaning Behind The Royal Baby Name Lilibet Diana

Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Welcome Lilibet Diana Mountbatten Windsor! And Her name alone has been causing quite the commotion!

On Friday, June 4th, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed the newest addition to their family, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. We know, it’s a mouthful. But the name of the newest daughter of royalty holds a ton of significance, as it’s a name that honors the Royal Family itself. Harry and Meghan may have stepped away from their royal duties and relocated to Californioa to live a life outside of the Royal family, but they’ve also shown that they still value certain royal traditions. Lili’s name holds quite a bit of meaning, as it’s a name that pays tribute to two of the closest women in Harry’s life - his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth herself as well as his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

Though we know her as Queen Elizabeth, “Lilibet” is the name that those closest to Her Majesty would refer to her by. It’s also the name her late husband, Prince Phillip, would call her. And Harry’s mother was clearly an important influence in his life, so it makes perfect sense that he would want to continue to honor her. Though the couple has gotten a little bit of negativity from those who find the name demeaning (Though it’s literally just a name, we know.), Meghan and Harry seem unbothered as they welcome their new bundle of joy.
