Kristin Cavallari And Jay Cutler's Divorce Is Getting Messier
Apr 28 2020
Very Cavallari star Kristin Cavallari and her husband of seven years, former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, announced their decision to divorce on April 26, 2020. During their 10 years in total together, the couple welcomed three children, sons Camden Jack and Jaxon Wyatt, and daughter Saylor James. In identical Instagram posts, both Cavallari and Cutler wrote,
"This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family."
Shortly after their breakup announcement, court documents detailing their impending divorce surfaced on April 27, 2020. The documents seem to suggest that Cavallari and Cutler disagree on a variety of subjects, including financial support, custody of their kids, and their official date of separation. The documents also prove that both parties have already filed for divorce, meaning that their split is full steam ahead. This might come as a disappointment to fans who watched their love story grow over three seasons of reality show Very Cavallari.
Curiously, Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler list different dates of separation on their divorce filings. Cavallari claims their split occurred on April 7, 2020, the same day she returned from the Bahamas with Cutler and their kids, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. However, Cutler says the breakup went down on April 21, 2020, which is when he filed for divorce.
As fans might recall, Cavallari and Cutler took a trip to the Bahamas in March 2020 with the reality star's BFF, Justin Anderson. It's unclear if something went down during the trip, although it's worth noting that Cavallari didn't post any pictures with the NFL star throughout their tropical vacation. In fact, the Laguna Beach alum last posted a picture with Cutler on March 12, 2020, suggesting that their split might have been brewing for quite some time.
When Jay Cutler filed for divorce, he listed the reason as "irreconcilable differences." According to TMZ, he also asked the court to enforce the couple's prenuptial agreement, and requested joint physical and legal custody of their three children.
Meanwhile, Kristin Cavallari filed on April 24. TMZ reported that Cavallari's court documents stated,
"[Cutler] is guilty of such inappropriate marital conduct as renders further cohabitation unsafe and improper. [...] [A]ny misconduct alleged or implied against her in the complaint for divorce was in response to and/or as a result of misconduct on behalf of the Husband."
Financially, Cavallari wants an undisclosed amount of child support. Per TMZ,
"[Kristin] wants Jay to pay for their kids' health insurance and maintain a life insurance policy where she is listed as sole beneficiary."
It appears as though Cutler and Cavallari's differences also include how they'll co-parent their three kids post-divorce. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Cutler has requested joint custody and states,
"[Cutler] has always been the available at-home parent and the primary caretaker of the parties minor children."
However, Cavallari has countered this claim and wants primary physical custody of the couple's three kids. Her documents state, according to TMZ,
"[Cavallari] denies that Husband has always been the available at home parent and primary caretaker of the parties' minor children. Wife would show that she has been the primary residential parent."
Back in 2014, Cavallari gushed about Cutler's parenting skills in an interview with Michigan Avenue. She revealed,
"Jay is a great dad. [...] It's so sweet seeing him with Camden and Jax, and there's nothing sexier than seeing your husband as a great dad."
And in August 2018, the reality star explained to Page Six how Cutler would hold it down at home while she built her Uncommon James jewelry, home, and fashion empire. Cavallari explained,
“I have a lot on my plate, yeah, I do. I honestly could not do it without my husband, Jay [...] He luckily is unemployed at the moment. [...] And he takes the kids to school, and he picks them up from school, which really frees up my day. He’s at home with the kids himself right now [...] So as corny and cheesy as it is, I honestly couldn’t do it without him.”
Regardless of what happens, we wish both Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler the best as they navigate this new normal for their family. Watch the video to learn how Kristin Cavallari And Jay Cutler's Divorce Is Getting Messier!
