Inside Savannah Chrisley's Health Struggles
Aug 24 2020
Savannah Chrisley has opened up about her personal struggles with endometriosis. The Chrisley Knows Best star took to Instagram on August 17, 2020 to discuss her health challenges. Chrisley shared a photo of herself holding a folder of information labeled, "CENTER FOR ENDOMETRIOSIS CARE" and a caption that read,
"I haven't talked about this much because honestly...I have struggled BIG TIME. I'm insanely self-conscious and just feel like my body has given up on me. I was diagnosed with Endometriosis when I was 18 and it's been quite the struggle."
Although the star's health issues might have been a surprise to fans, it's all part of Chrisley's evolving attitude toward her public persona. In an interview with People in July 2020, Savannah Chrisley spoke candidly about filming Chrisley Knows Best.
"Growing up on TV, a lot of people think oh that's amazing but for me I know there was a lot of pressure to be perfect and to know that mothers are allowing their daughters to follow me on social media and look up to me. I've put a lot of pressure on myself in order to live this perfect life and not disappoint people."
Chrisley also revealed that therapy has been an integral part of overcoming her anxiety.
"Right now, I'm at a place where I want to live my life for myself and not be so fixated on what people think. Opinions hurt. I see them and sometimes they hit close to home. You have to have that healthy balance, and for me I am a huge advocate for therapy. I think it takes a lot of strength to go and talk to someone."
It seems like it takes even more strength to share that journey with the public. Chrisley's struggles with endometriosis have compelled her to start reexamining her future plans, and she said Chrisley Knows Best viewers will be able to witness her health journey. She told Life & Style,
"I always thought I'd be a young mom, so we definitely do go in and do the talks of potentially freezing my eggs and just all the different options that there are."
While this is a very personal matter, Savannah told Entertainment Tonight that she's ready to open up to her followers. She said in July 2020,
"Our whole philosophy is kind of, if we can share something that we're going through in order to help others, then that's what we're going to do. I turned 23 in August, but I have a doctor telling me, 'Alright, you need to finish having kids by the time you're 30.' So I'm like, well if I want to have four kids I better start now, and so that's not happening."
When it comes to discussing major struggles on her family's reality show, Savannah seems to maintain a healthy perspective. She told ET,
"We go into some real-life issues [...] but at the end of the day we find some way to laugh through them, cry through them. It doesn't always have to be negative. Like I said, it's all about your mindset."
Savannah Chrisley said her struggles pertaining to endometriosis extend beyond just the disorder itself. The medication to treat the symptoms can also prove problematic. She told Life & Style,
"I gained about 30 pounds within the six months. I mean, it was hard."
Still, that didn't stop the Chrisley Knows Best cast member from trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. She continued,
"I would work out like crazy and try to eat right but there was nothing I could do to control it."
On her Instagram story, Savannah posted a picture of herself and wrote:
"Fun fact: This photo was taken when I had an IUD and was on a medication at the highest dosage for six months... and gained 30/40 pounds... #EndoSucks."
Eventually, Chrisley found a solution. She told Life & Style,
"Thank goodness for South Beach Diet because itβs truly helped me get back to where I was and where I feel comfortable."
Although it might have been hard for Chrisley to be so honest about her struggles to feel and look her best, hopefully her public journey can help other women going through their own challenges.
