Many reality shows devoted to the exploration of unusual behaviors have come and gone over the years. And while shows like Hoarders have become TV institutions, other shows haven't stood the test of time. Extreme Cheapskates is one of this latter category. The show ended after its third season, and even though it had its fans, others have their suspicions as to why it never saw a fourth season.
From accusations that Extreme Cheapskate stars were nothing more than actors, to observations that certain cheapskate behaviors (such as dumpster diving or sharing dental floss) might be made up for the cameras, Extreme Cheapskates was one of those shows that appeared to be of dubious authenticity. This might be why Extreme Cheapskates got canceled.
