Over the past year, the #MeToo movement has exposed abuses by powerful men, some of whom have committed sexual assault and other types of gender-related violence in a wide array of industries, including media, entertainment, and government. At the same time, however, men accused of physical and sexual violence against women have continued to find breakout success in hip-hop music, including XXXTENTACION, 6ix9ine, Kodak Black, and YoungBoy Never Broke Again. Hip-hop has a long history of complicity in this area, and it begs the question: will rap’s #MeToo moment ever arrive?
