Eric Dane, the charismatic actor who portrayed Dr. Mark Sloan on the beloved medical drama "Grey's Anatomy," recently dropped a bombshell about his departure from the show. In a candid conversation on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, Dane spilled the tea on why he believes he was let go from the series after six seasons of captivating audiences.

Addressing rumors and speculation head-on, Dane admitted, "I didn't leave so much as I think I was let go." The actor, now 51, reflected on his time on the show from 2006 to 2012, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding his exit.

While acknowledging his personal struggles with drug and alcohol addiction during his tenure on "Grey's Anatomy," Dane clarified that his addiction issues were not the primary reason for his departure. Instead, he pointed to financial considerations as a key factor in the network's decision to part ways with him.

"I was starting to become very expensive for the network," Dane revealed. "As most actors who have been on a show for a significant period, you start to become a financial burden. The network knew the show would thrive regardless of who they kept, as long as they had their Grey."

Despite the challenges he faced, Dane expressed understanding and acceptance of the network's decision. "I wasn't the same guy they had hired," he admitted. "I had evolved, and it was time for me to move on." The actor commended the show's creator, Shonda Rhimes, for her unwavering support throughout the ordeal, emphasizing her protective stance towards the cast.

Reflecting on his journey, Dane shared insights into his battle with addiction, revealing a period of sobriety before a relapse during the 2007 Writers Guild of America Strike. "If you take the whole eight years I was on 'Grey's Anatomy,' I was messed up longer than I was sober," he confessed, highlighting the challenges he faced behind the scenes.

Following his character's dramatic exit due to a plane crash in the Season 8 finale, Dane made a poignant return for a guest appearance in Season 17, reuniting with Chyler Leigh, who portrayed his onscreen love interest, Lexie Grey. The emotional reunion brought closure to fans as they bid farewell to these beloved characters.

Eric Dane's revelations offer a glimpse into the complexities of life in the spotlight and the personal struggles that can accompany fame. As fans continue to cherish his portrayal of Dr. Mark Sloan, Dane's honesty and vulnerability serve as a reminder of the human stories behind the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
