Travis Kelce's Reality TV Rejection: Why the NFL Star is Focused on the Field
Jul 02 2024

Travis Kelce, the NFL star known for his prowess on the football field, recently made a decision that surprised many. Despite teammate Patrick Mahomes' appearance on Netflix's Quarterback in 2023, Kelce, 34, turned down an offer to participate in the follow-up series Receiver. The tight end, who has been diversifying his portfolio, revealed his reasons for steering clear of reality TV on the "Bussin' With the Boys" podcast.

When asked about the opportunity to join the reality TV show, Kelce expressed his preference for focusing on playing ball and his existing commitments, including hosting the podcast "New Heights" with his brother, Jason. The podcast, which has been gaining traction, was reportedly being considered for a lucrative deal, showcasing the Kelce brothers' entrepreneurial spirit.

Reflecting on his past reality TV experience on E!'s Catching Kelce in 2016, where he searched for love, Kelce described the show as "extremely awkward." This sentiment, coupled with his current priorities, led him to decline the recent Netflix offer, stating, "I'm way over the reality s–t. I'm out on that s–t."

While Kelce commended his brother Jason for his Prime Video documentary Kelce, which documented Jason's final season in the NFL before retirement, he emphasized that such projects may not align with his own preferences. Kelce's focus remains on his football career, with the upcoming NFL season presenting an opportunity for him to chase a third consecutive Super Bowl victory with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Despite his reluctance towards reality TV, Kelce has been exploring other avenues beyond the football field. Recently, he completed hosting duties on the Prime Video game show "Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?" and expressed his enthusiasm for game shows, hinting at a long-standing interest in such projects.

In addition to his hosting gig, Kelce ventured into acting with a role in the upcoming series "Grotesquerie," produced by Ryan Murphy. Sources close to the NFL star revealed that he thoroughly enjoyed the filming experience, hinting at potential future endeavors in the entertainment industry.

Meanwhile, Netflix's Receiver, featuring NFL pass catchers George Kittle, Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, Deebo Samuel, and Amon-Ra St. Brown, is set to premiere on July 10. As Kelce continues to focus on his football career and explore new opportunities, fans eagerly anticipate his performance in the upcoming NFL season, where he aims to add another Super Bowl victory to his impressive resume.
