Competing at the Olympic level would seem to guarantee some level of immortality; after all, these are near-superhuman athletes who routinely break world records as the world watches on. There's arguably no grander stage for an athlete to compete than the Olympic Games. Unfortunately, even the most accomplished and physically gifted athletes in the world aren't immune to disease, old age, or simply bad luck. These athletes etched their names into the history books with incredible feats, and sadly didn't get the fanfare they deserved when they passed.
