The recent unsealing of court documents related to Jeffrey Epstein has brought to light additional connections with well-known magician David Copperfield. These documents, made public on Friday, include a 2010 deposition involving Sarah Kellen, a former associate of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, who has faced allegations of facilitating Epstein's abusive activities.
Kellen, mentioned as an unindicted co-conspirator in Epstein's 2008 legal agreement, was questioned about her knowledge of Copperfield during this deposition. The plaintiff's lawyer inquired about Kellen's awareness of Copperfield's presence at a dinner hosted by Epstein in Palm Beach, as well as the nature of Copperfield's relationship with Epstein. When pressed further about possible recruitment or trafficking of "girls" by Copperfield and Epstein, including the distribution of show tickets to young women and subsequent backstage invitations, Kellen consistently invoked the Fifth Amendment, declining to answer.
This line of questioning in the deposition hints at previously unknown ties between Copperfield and Epstein. Until the release of these unredacted documents, there had been no public link between the two.
Additionally, Copperfield's name surfaced in a 2016 deposition by Johanna Sjoberg, another individual connected to Epstein. Sjoberg recalled meeting Copperfield at Epstein's residence and mentioned a conversation where Copperfield inquired about girls being paid to recruit others.
Despite these revelations, representatives for Copperfield have not issued any comments. Notably, Copperfield is recognized as one of the most successful magicians globally, with Forbes reporting earnings of $46 million in 2020. His financial ventures extend beyond his performances, including the ownership of 11 private islands in the Bahamas.
