Overfishing May Prevent This Gal From Finding Her Soul Mate
Jul 17 2018
Once a bountiful fish commonly found in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, the Snowy Grouper now suffers from overfishing. Aptly named for the white spots that speckle its scales, the Snowy Grouper begins life as a female, but as it reaches maturity, some become male. Unregulated fishing of juveniles have prevented many Snowy Groupers from changing sex, thus negatively impacting their populations. They are now considered a vulnerable species as their native populations continue to decline.
