Vivienne Jolie-Pitt Is 11 And Doesn't Look Like This Anymore
Mar 29 2020
When Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt announced their divorce in 2016, fans of the couple were shocked, and maybe even a little heartbroken. But while the A-list power couple is no longer together, Jolie and Pitt managed to build quite the family during their lengthy relationship. They have six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, John, Vivienne, and Knox. And while all of the Jolie-Pitt kids have grown up in the spotlight, that's been especially true for the two youngest: twins Vivienne and Knox. Jolie gave birth to Vivienne and Knox in July 2008 in a hospital in Nice, France. Vivienne's middle name, Marcheline, is a tribute to Jolie's late mother. Jolie later explained:
"When [she] passed, I realized that somebody who lives life with that kind of dedication to family is the most noble."
Little Vivienne made her acting debut alongside her mom in 2014's Maleficent, in which Vivienne plays a young Aurora. Jolie told Entertainment Weekly in March of that year:
"The other 3- and 4-year-old [performers] wouldn't come near me. It had to be a child that liked me and wasn't afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv."
When asked if she thinks any of her other kids will pursue acting in the future, Jolie said:
"We never have intended...to put our children in film and encourage them to be actors. We encourage them to be happy in whatever they wish to be."
She added of Vivienne:
"Like anybody, it's our little girl, so we see her and she's just silly and sweet and the idea that she's in a movie is still kind of funny to her mom and dad."
In addition to testing her acting chops, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt has been honing other skills too, including learning Arabic. In 2016, Jolie told the BBC:
"All the kids are learning different languages. I asked them what languages they wanted to learn."
And as for Viv's siblings? Well, Shiloh is learning a Cambodian language called Khmer, Pax is learning Vietnamese, Maddox took German and Russian, Zahara is learning French, and Knox is learning American sign language. And the Jolie-Pitt kids are home-schooled, too. A source told InTouch:
"Because they're homeschooled, they've formed an unbreakable bond. They really rely on each other."
Proud mom Jolie told Entertainment Tonight in August 2019:
"When you know that your kids love each other and you see the way they all, without any kind of prompting or pushing, give each other notes, hug each other, take each other, support each other, then you feel like they're gonna be okay and they're always gonna have each other."
Of course, being the children of two of Hollywood's most famous faces, there's no denying that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's kids have an unconventional upbringing. Luckily, their parents are encouraging them to be their own thing, rather than accept what's expected of them. In December 2018, Jolie told the BBC:
"[My kids] all have a good rebellious streak that is wonderful and curious. I don't want them to be perfectly behaved little people that just say what's absolutely appropriate because I say so...They have to find themselves."
Self-exploration is imperative to Jolie, too. In 2019, she told Harper's Bazaar:
"Knowing our true self is a very important question for all of us. Especially a child. I think kids need to be able to say, 'Here's who I am, and what I believe.'"
"In five years time I would like to be travelling around the world visiting my children, hoping that they're just happy and doing really interesting things."
Not only has Angelina Jolie encouraged her kids to be true to themselves, but Jolie says her children have helped her rediscover her own identity. In her Harper's Bazaar interview, she revealed:
"My children know my true self, and they have helped me to find it again and to embrace it. They have been through a lot. I learn from their strength."
Only time will tell what Vivienne's future holds, and if she continues to pursue acting alongside her parents. Either way, it sounds like she'll be happy doing her own thing...no matter what she decides to do.
