It began as a revolutionary way to lose weight. Who'd have thought it could be such a life-saver. We are talking about those little bands surgeons clip round the stomach to prevent over-eating and beat obesity. That's pretty remarkable, but now, there's more. Doctors say the bands are an exciting breakthrough in the battle against type 2 diabetes. A world-first clinical trial in Melbourne has had stunning success. Michael Usher reports, the disease was wiped out in three-quarters of the patients they treated. Which is great news when you consider that 275 new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in Australia every day.
